How We Assist You With Immigration Law — Our Quality Assured Process

If you are considering applying for a visa or residence permit in Norway, the first place to look is the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration’s website, udi.no. UDI provides a comprehensive overview of the different grounds for obtaining a visa or residence permit — whether based on work, family immigration, studies, or other categories — along with the general requirements for each. For a broader introduction to how we work with immigration law in Norway, including family and work immigration and the appeals process, see our main immigration law page.

For many straightforward cases, the information available on udi.no will be sufficient to guide you through the process on your own. However, immigration law often involves individual circumstances that don’t fit neatly into a general description. If you have gone through the information on udi.no and still can’t find a clear answer to your specific situation, this usually means your case requires a more thorough review — a concrete, individual assessment carried out by an experienced immigration lawyer in Oslo.

What a Legal Assessment Involves

A typical assessment of this kind takes up to 2 hours of legal work. During this time, we go through the details of your situation, identify the relevant legal grounds and requirements that apply to you, and advise you on the most viable path forward — including any risks or documentation requirements you should be aware of.

Before we can begin, we are required by law to carry out standard anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) checks. Setting up a new case in our systems, including these checks, typically takes around 30 minutes. This is billable time, invoiced at our standard hourly rate, as with any other work we carry out on your case.

Our Process, Step by Step

1. Identity verification and self-declaration
If you have Norwegian BankID, identity verification is completed digitally in just a few minutes. If not, you will need to send us a copy of your passport and download, complete, and sign a self-declaration form (including a PEP — Politically Exposed Person — declaration), which we will provide to you.

2. Advance payment
Once your identity is verified, you pay an advance corresponding to 2 hours of legal work, currently NOK 7 900 (3950 NOK per hour). This covers the assessment described above.

3. Scheduling your consultation
We agree on a time for a thorough review of your case and legal advice, either by phone, video call, or in person at our office in Oslo.

4. Your decision on next steps
Based on the advice you receive, you decide how you want to proceed. You may choose to follow one of the paths we recommend and continue working with us, or you may choose to end the process there — the choice is entirely yours.

This structured approach ensures that every client receives a thorough, individually tailored assessment, while also meeting the legal and regulatory requirements we are obligated to follow as a Norwegian law firm.
